Babcock University has wrapped up its intensive, three-week capacity-building workshop on scholarly publishing, research ethics, and grantsmanship, setting a bold new standard for driving research excellence and global visibility.
Delivering the closing charge, President/Vice Chancellor Professor Afolarin Olutunde Ojewole urged participants to “translate knowledge into tangible outputs — world-class publications, ethical research practices, and successful grant applications.”
He commended the Research, Innovation and International Collaboration (RIIC) office for organizing what he described as a “highly impactful programme”, and extended special recognition to guest facilitator, Professor Sanda Maiduc of Romania’s Universitatea Politehnica din București for her expertise in grantsmanship.
“This workshop has equipped our faculty with the tools to build successful research careers,” declared Prof. Ojewole. “The challenge now is to remain focused and committed to producing research that elevates Babcock University’s global ranking.”
Workshop host, Associate Vice President, RIIC, Professor Foluso Ojewole, emphasized that the sessions were designed to empower faculty to confidently write grants and publish impactful research. She noted that the initiative aligns with the University’s GRACE mandate, positioning participants to be more research-driven and self-motivated:
Participants described the workshop as both “enlightening and practical.” Professor Adewale Adebayo, Dean of the School of Computing, highlighted how the training simplified grant writing and clarified critical aspects such as proposal presentation, budgeting, and identifying funding agencies. “The workshop made grant writing look rewarding and achievable,” he said.
The workshop delivered a comprehensive framework for advancing scholarly productivity, strengthening ethical research practices, and enhancing academic leadership. By equipping faculty with practical strategies for publishing in high-quality journals and securing competitive funding, Babcock University has reinforced its commitment to global research excellence.
