Babcock University hosts Females in Academics Conference in partnership with University of Glasgow

Babcock University recently hosted the Females in Academics conference, a two-day event  which brought together academics from 12 universities in the South West region to discuss issues affecting their wellbeing.

The conference, a collaborative effort between Babcock University and the University of Glasgow, featured keynote speaker Professor Olanike Adeyemo, Secretary to the State Government of Oyo State and Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan.

While delivering her keynote address titled, Empowering Women in Academia: Navigating Leadership and Wellness,  Prof. Adeyemo encouraged participants to recognize the privilege to lead as an opportunity to make a change in the life of those being led.

“Be more of yourself and what makes you happy and less of someone else. Demonstrate leadership traits, and challenge biases and stereotypes,” she said.

President/Vice Chancellor Professor Ademola Tayo emphasized the importance of investing in women's education to end extreme poverty in society.

“I hope the conference outcomes would significantly improve academia and encouraged female academics to be intentional in their endeavours to restore the fortunes of society,” he said.

The conference provided a platform for female academics to share ideas, address challenges, and empower each other to navigate leadership and wellness in academia.
